Default Passenger side knocking

My V70 has developed quite a knock on the passenger side, mainly when on rough surfaces, I recall back in my 850 owning days that the front anti roll bar links were a bit like chocolate, could anyone remind me of the best place to start looking. I’ve just replaced the top engine mount which was toast and can only assume the other two are equally worn out, would there gearbox link bar present a noise like this?

Hi,

The drop links are one candidate. Assuming you're FWD, the rear delta link bushes are another. They give a substantial clunk/knock that sounds as though it's around the B pillar. These also give a hard/crashing ride over bumps.

My front right engine mount separated but was still quiet. It made the car roll in corners though.
I understand that the lower mount/ torque strut manifests itself more as gearchange feel than a noise but someone who's had that will be better placed to advise. Luckily, it's a 2 minute job to check it and about 5 to change.

It's also worth checking your rear exhaust hangar. When this rusts free, it knocks against the exhaust. Another easy fix.

Best regards,

Rich.

I know this will sound silly but check any batteries mountings under the hood, they can rot in time or the bolt work out and the weight transfers the sound into something much worse sounding over bumps etc. hth.

From my experience, drop links make a clicky noise. Jack the car up and let the wheel hang, pull and push the drop link to feel for movement.

More likely suspension top mount, difficuly to diagnose but cheap and easy to replace.

Cheers,

Jod

So I’ve changed the top engine mount, right hand engine mount and the torque mount on the gear box plus the anti roll bar drop links, a lot of the vibration and noises have gone now bar a single clunk when pulling away or putting the car into reverse and lifting the clutch enough to bite. Any thoughts?

Check the small bush at the bulkhead end of the top engine torque bracket. I assume you have fitted a new big one at the head end.

yes the engine one was replaced, the bulkhead one looks in good shape, is there any way to tell however? When I rev the engine with the bonnet open the engine is loverly and steady with hardly no movement.

Wear on the NS driveshaft CV joints? With the car on level ground, or preferably a four poster lift, check and measure the fore/aft movement and compare against the OS joints.
