Default Power tailgate won't open/close

Is there a way to diagnose dead tailgate pull down motor (#31457823) ?

I have a power operated tailgate and tailgate just stopped working when trying to open or close the tailgate. Sometimes it just closes the tailgate up to 50-75%, it does not open the tailgate entirely, it just unlocks and opens the tailgate 5-20%.

VIDA has diagnosed POT-C112767 Position Sensor error.

Have you double checked that the rear loom for the tailgate is in good working order? Normally this fails first and if anything is not working as it should in/on the tailgate this is the best place to start looking.

I was not able to access the FB link provided. But I was able to find a document called "Tailgate connector-EN.pdf". I will give a try and install a "shortcut" wire.

Document title: "Wire harness luggage compartment lid"
Act: "Elimination of product defects"

Link: Tailgate_connectorENpdf.pdf

No luck, installed "shortcut" wire on the ground cable, tailgate is still not functioning properly. I also used multimeter's continuity mode to check whether the ground cable is continuous -- it was continuous before and after the "fix". So, the connector socket is not culprit.

Does anyone know the expected behavior of gas struts on POT ?

My use case: tailgate is in open position, I remove the POT engine unit, tailgate would immediately drop down and close. Are gas struts supposed to behave like this or they are supposed to keep the tailgate open ?

I don't have this issue, but need to investigate a clunking sound that occurs right at the end of the opening sequence, so thanks for updating what you did, because the pictures are quite useful.

It takes the combined effort of the motor and the gas springs to keep the lid open.
