Thanks Bob

I could do similar on the other side as that's where my battery is

I was thinking about behind the grille but that will probably get fairly wet

Interstingly the one I got from dealer has a float in it. I have a sensor from an 850 tank which looks similar. Wonder if that would work ?
What you hear rattling inside is the floating magnet. The sensor contains a reed relais, so if the 850 sensor fits the tank, it should work. It should switch on or below the "min" mark.

I'm planning on putting mine behind the grille when i have to do mine Mark, it stays surprisingly dry in there unless you pressure wash it. If memory serves, there are convenient bolt holes there as well and the heat from the radiator will help keep the horns dry too.

I can't fit mine where Bob has because the ABS modulator is there on mine, on t'other side the air filter etc is in the way and eventually so will an LPG reducer be there. As such i only have behind the grille, fairly high up to avoid the splash from the road and give maximum effect to the pedestrians before they get intimate with the underside of the car!

I think it will work but I might need to fit a different connector.

The question is what does the connector plug into ?? Does my dash have a warning lamp on it for that as well ?

The lamp is there but there won't be a bulb in it is my understanding and you will need to run a loom for it.

Opening the bonnet once a week seems easier

That's what I've done for the past four years !

I had a new one last year, I had been blaming my head gasket for all the loss/leaking requiring weekly top ups but a lot had been the header tank!

Did you notice the leak at the expansion tank joint insert when the engine was hot and under pressure or when cold?

Although I would expect it to be leaking when hot I only ever look when cold.....

I ran one but fitted a blue warning light in the space of a switch blank, much easier than taking out the dash panel...

Ironically I have had to disconnect the sensor cos it went faulty and the light stayed on!!

I always give the (cold stationary) engine a visual once over weekly when I check fluid levels and I never ever saw a leak. It was my mechanic who spotted it when the engine was running/hot.
