Default Cheap Genuine D5 (and others) Oil Filter

After a little research I can confirm that the Mann oil filter with the product number HU 719/8, is not only the OEM equivalent and alternative to genuine, it is the exact same oil filter. Be sure to write the number down accurately because some Mann filters look the same, and will fit and have almost the same part number but they have different properties and applications.
So if your D5 (and some petrols) require Volvo part number:
8642570
8692305
30757157
30788821
you can buy the above Mann filter for half the price and receive a filter that's identical to that supplied by a main dealer.

There is no charge for this information service.

Fitted one recently. I recall ' for Volvo cars' is written in fine print on the box.

Yep. It only has Ford and Volvo applications and cross references, nothing else.
There is an identical looking HU 719/6 but that's for VW/Audi applications and has subtle technical differences I don't understand, lol.

I just purchased a genuine Volvo oil filter for my D5 20 minutes ago. Sitting with it in my hand here at the minute. The Volvo part numbers are 8692305 (on the box) and 30788821 (on the filter). It also has Mann Filter written on it, as well as Germany and HU719/8. These filters are also used in some Volvo Penta engines. Paid £10.75 all in, but I needed it for an oil change tomorrow and couldn't afford to wait on it. Pretty sure the old filter didn't say Volvo on it, even though it was in a genuine Volvo box. Find out tomorrow.

On a similar note what is your opinion on air and fuel filters I've always used genuine but now will use the Mann filter since its the same for the oil but air filter and fuel? I can save quite a chunk when I service mine in a week or so of the other Mann filters are of equal quality what do people reckon. It's my tight Yorkshireness coming out here as I'm more than happy to use genuine but if there is a penny to be saved and all that!
