Cheap Genuine D5 (and others) Oil Filter

I have a Mann air filter and am pretty sure all my airflow data is right up where it should be and I use Hengst fuel filters. Once again, if that was stifling fuel flow or allowing leak back, I'd have starting or running problems or lack of rail pressure under high load and my data suggests all is well there too.
There's some good aftermarket stuff out there and I only used to go genuine on the oil filter because you can't really measure whether a pattern part is having an adverse effect (until maybe too late) so I didn't chance it.
Now I know the cheaper oil filter is identical, I'll ditch genuine.

I have just last week, used the very same filter that Chesh mentions and can confirm that it is identical to the Volvo one that it replaced.

I got it from Eurocarparts for about £6 and it was the filter recommended by them when I entered my reg no.

Mann stuff is very good. So is Bosch, Hengst and Mahle.

Crossland i've found to be garbage, but theres not a to choose with the above four, they are all reputable companies who make OEM stuff for main dealers.

Got some of these very filters in my shed, kindly given to me by Georgeandkira when I was in New York last year, and they don't even have diesel Volvo's over there, go figure eh.

This filter isn't just for diesels. It's also for some petrol engines from Ford and Volvo which is why the filter is available in the US.

Very true mate very true.

You get stuff stamped Volvo for the Defender at a fraction of the cost.
Its just knowing which is which but you could run into problems if it was a warranty claim.

No cars in this section are under manufacturer's warranty but even if you have a used car warranty, you're still using the exact same recommended part with identical quality so a technical reason against using this part would make interesting reading.
The main reason for me putting up this thread is to save unnecessary expense for the home diyer and for us, warranty concerns are a distant memory.
