Its worth pointing out that if you have a heavy right foot, you will get through a lot of fuel on one of these so fuel tank size is a serious consideration.
I am very thankful that they now fit a 70 litre tank - anything smaller would have been pretty frustrating.
As an aside but on topic, we once went for a day out with my brother in law from Lincolnshire to the Lake District and he filled the fuel tank 3 times that day - this was in a Mitsubishi Outlander which I believe has a 45 litre tank.
He generally keeps his foot down pretty hard but we (in a diesel Seat Alhambra) managed the whole day on a single tank (staying with him pretty much the whole time).

I am somewhat reminded about the story of the tortoise and the hare.....

I once filled up mine at a local petrol station which sits at the bottom of a NSL dual carriageway, leading up to the M1 junction. I reset all the trips, came out of the station, in Power mode and booted it up the hill to the M1. As I got to the roundabout, my MPG display said 3.9mpg......

Worst I can ever remember was when we had a Mitsubishi Shogun. Started the engine on a cold morning and left it a while to warm up. The first reading that came up after driving a short distance was 0.5mpg.

On a slightly more relevant note, the worst I have had from my XC60 on a more sustained basis was when I was going pretty quick for a reasonable distance along the A34/M4 for about 70 miles. Ended up at around 24mpg.
