Default Interior lights question.

Hi all, normally when I get in the car the interior lights go off as soon as I start the engine, and if I open the door for any reason, usually so the 6 year old can see to clip his seat belt in, they go straight off again when I close it again with the engine running, however these last few days I've noticed that they're staying on for at least 30 seconds, maybe even one minute from when I close the door, even when driving, I have checked all the doors and nothing is open or anything, although the light on the dash would tell me about that anyway, has anyone ever had this happen before and might have a starting point of something to check?

Many thanks in advance

Very odd indeed. I have never experienced, or heard of this problem before

Is there a control module anywhere specific to the interior lights? Wondering if there is a changeover relay or similar somewhere that is stuck

Ahh, I have just had a brainwave...

The first time I remember this happening was on the same day where I was changing the boost gauge that lives above the headlight switch, the one I had had an insanely bright led light in it, which practically blinds you at night, and I had powered the lighting for it off the back of one of the little bulbs in the light switch by soldering onto the two pads on the back of said bulb, which I accidentally shorted out with a screwdriver while the engine was running, there was a little buzz and the lighting circuit to those 3 bulbs on the switch is now dead, I bet I've blown something somewhere in the lighting module, as the door open bulb on the dash no longer works if you open the doors either, the two things are either a massive massive coincidence or are connected.

Probably related to that, but the problem is that I don't know controls the interior lights. I would have thought that it is the CEM module, bit if you actually unplug it completely, the interior light still work. So I don't think it controls them. I am not even sure where to look at. Have you checked all fuses and relays in both the engine bay and the driver's footwell?

That's today's plan, although I'm now thinking that it's not the cem that's responsible for the interior lights, but the headlight switch itself, as when I had it disconnected yesterday to fit the LEDs I mentioned, with the switch unplugged and the door open the interior lights don't do anything, it was only when I plugged the switch back in that they came on.

Just went outside and disconnected the headlight switch and the interior lights stayed on with the door open

Well my car's just stupid then haha, I will check things like fuses though as the fact that the door open warning lamp doesn't work anymore makes me wonder, unless of course it's something as simple as that bulb having just blown.

Does the door open lamp turn on if you open any of the other doors?

Nope, no lamp anymore, it always used to work and now doesn't, I might whip the instrument cluster out and switch the bulb with another one.
