I have an intermittent ABS warning light being displayed. In view of the high cost of replacement sensors, does anybody have any idea of why the light is intermittent?

You will really need to read the codes. Not sure how that works on the S90 but my 940 1996 has the obd plug in the centre armrest.

Like Mark says, you need to read the codes but................

.............before you do, does the charge warning light come on at the same time? Also could you describe the intermittent behaviour of the ABS warning light as in when it comes on, when it goes off etc?

Thanks to Volvos infinite wisdom when designing the wiring, if the charge warning light is blown and the alternator has a fault, it will bring the ABS (and other) warning lights on.

Sometimes the warning light will come on when starting and driving the car. It will stay on (most of the time) until switching off again. Other times, it does not come on when starting and driving, and will then come on part way through the drive??
By the way, the charging light does not come on at the same time.

Thanks to jpliddy. I will try on ebay as you suggest, the prices I found on another dealer's site were about £120 each!

I am pretty sure the ones fitted to my S90 come complete with the long leads and you can't just change the sensor head.
By the way, who are DAI?

Dai is me

Normally when the sensor fails they tend to be a total failure and the light will be on constant.

If when you get the ABS failure the speedo also reads wrong then the diff sensor is where you need to look. If the speedo behaves normal then it is the front sensors. In that case my first step would be to clean the tone rings on the front hubs and clean off the tips of the sensors

Thanks for the advice. The car is in Spain at the moment, so when I get back I will try what you suggest. This sounds to be the most likely reason for the fault being intermittent.
