Default v50 immobiliser fault

Please could somebody help.!!!!! 2006 v50 2.0 diesel. se.

key in. steering lock disengages. lights all come up .....then nothing. reads immobiliser fault see manual. fitted new battery . cleaned connections on ignition , cem, no fuses blown. . i took it to a garage with volvo computer.dice ..
was told there is no communication between modules. and the guy said he didnt want to get involved with it!! could take forever to fix!...i was hoping he could have at least pinpointed the problem.
So.......any ideas please . i'm virtually walking up the walls !!
