Heater Panel Issues
Hello. I have an 2004 V40 1.9D and I have an issue with the heater panel, although some second hand parts my make this a bigger issue. It started with the heater switch only working intermittently and always only at number 6.
The fan will start every now and then when the ignition is turned on and if I move the switch to a lower number, that's it until the next time it decides to oblige. I got a replacement panel through the Parts Gateway assuming it was a fault with the switch unit itself, but it behaves exactly the same. I am assuming that it may be a sensor or an issue the fan unit. I am slow to go to a Volvo dealer as they want a couple of hundred Euro just to try and diagnose the issue and considering they wanted 700 Euro + Vat for a replacement heater panel which I got second hand for under 100 Euro encourages me to try and sort it out myself. If anyone could shed any light on the problem that would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance. Shane. Co Clare, Ireland. |

Thanks Ian, that's been a real help, just one question though. A lot of the posts make reference to the issue of the fan running at speed 5/6 only and constantly where as mine will only run at 6 every now and then and when it does run and I turn it below 6 and then return it to 6 again it won't run at all.
Does this change anything or is still likely the resister. |

That fact that it's doing the same thing, after you replaced the climate control panel, would suggest that it's the transistor.

As it worked out, the £2.75 potentiometer was the fix. Had it not of worked, then it's about the same again for the transistor, so it's only a cheap trial and error in any event !!! Easy job to do too !!! |

Thanks to all who helped me out today. very much appreciated. I have the resister out now so I can at least get a start on getting it sorted. Is fitting a replacement resister straight forward? just I bit of soldering i suppose?
