Default S40 Rear caliper woe

Decided to change the rear discs and pads as the disc looks original but okay.
The pads have many miles left on them but best to change them at the same time.

All went well until trying to remove the 2nd caliper carrier retaining bolt which i found was rounded off and would not shift.
Just cleaned up the caliper and lubed the slider pins which were dry and aborted the job
What i didn't see however was a mark to line up the piston after retracting it, which i didn't do as i left it as found.

Is there an alignment mark or are you supposed to set it to how you found it?

Edit I know it has to be retracted following disc/pad changes but what i mean is how to align in correctly to fit pins on the pad.
I have the rewind tools.

Can't you just do it by eye? Use the caliper rewind tool to turn it visually to the correct position?

I'm pretty sure the holes on the caliper piston are only for the windback tool and not for the little nipples on the brake pads.

Last time I had mine to bits, they didn't line up together.

The holes on the piston are just there for the piston retraction tool to grip the piston, they're not for locating the pads.

Thanks for the advise.

Have had another look at the new pads and the spacing of the pins on the piston pad and it would seem too wide to fit inside the piston holes, so i guess you just rewind it back.

My last car a Jag x type had to be aligned by an arrow on the caliper against the piston.
Just what are the reasons for putting these pins on the back of the pads?

From what I've found, the rear pads for our cars also fit other cars. So they maybe do line up on other cars.

These callipers are also fitted to some fords. I have just had the rear pads out on my c70 and the pad next to the piston has these little pins on them which lined up with the holes on the piston will fit in to.If they don't line up your back brake will bind
