Still the same although not as erratic as before, it has now thrown a fault up and is difficult to start. The fault cade is cam shaft position sensor - single sensor or bank? It has also gained a shudder when cruisung at around 60 mph Any ideas?

Maybe this isn't a turbo/ boost problem now. You say you loose boost when you accelerate for a brief time, well to get boost you need exhaust gas for this you need fuel. Maybe you are getting a little fuel starvation, when was the fuel filter last changed?

The difficult starting is easily explained by the bad cam sensor, older diesels timed their injection just by pumppressure , commonrail needs to know where the piston is before it can open the injectors
No signal no injection Check the connector first if its ok change the sensor its between the transmission and engine |

Hi guys,
Fuel filter was changed back in Feb, for a Mann filter. I've not done many miles since then due to all these problems. I've removed the cam sensor and cleaned it off this helped with the poor starting as described by 5cylinder but no fix on the boost issue, the cam sensor on mine is on the back of the rocker cover behind the injectors... is that the right one? It did some thing though that's a good sign Last edited by webbyd5; Apr 16th, 2016 at 23:42. |

I've been having a read up about this boost issue, and it seems a lot of d5 owners have has the exact same issue but there's no solutions that have been posted.....
It spools and pulls the car off like it's supposed to then at around 1500-2000 rpm it makes a dump valve sound looses boost momentarily then boosts up to max power again. This weekend I have vac tested all the lines and mounts and can only see the problem being that when you reconnect everything, the VNT arm moves towards the open position then momentarily drops off and goes back towards closed before carrying on to open again. When I vac tested the engine mounts, both mounts lose vacuum momentarily before allowing me to apply full vacuum and then they hold it till the gauge goes to the maximum position where it stays signalling no leaks. I've also noticed the VNT arm is opening to fully open position whilst engine is idling and that the car seems to be holding boost up to 3.5psi when I let off the accelerator. Any pointers guys? It feels like I've nearly completely fixed the issues I'm just struggling with the fine tuning.... |
