Default GUL yellow T-5R 855 for sale

For sale is my T-5R estate auto in original Cream Yellow — the ULEZ charge has proven to be a sufficient disincentive to driving it, sadly.

There are a couple of issues I was going to sort out, but now I'd rather leave them for the next owner and reflect it in the price.

There is an oil leak from the head gasket (leaking to the outside, not into water jacket) and possible worn valve guides and/or stem seals. Either way, the remedy is the same — a head rebuild — though the engine and transmission run faultlessly and so there's no urgency to get these done.

One of the rear shocks has oil misting and needs replacing. These are Nivomats, so won't be cheap.

There are two spots of rust on the rear tailgate (shown in the pic), and other than a small ding in the OSR door, the bodywork is straight and rot-free. Paint is original and faded in parts.

Wheels are in good shape with a couple of kerb-marks. Tyres are Michelin Pilot 4S

There is a crack in the windscreen on the passenger side, but not an MOT failure.

However... the interior is almost spotless, bar some wear to driver's seat bolster, but it's not ripped and would probably restore.

It's been regularly serviced in the 30 months I've owned it including a cam-belt swap and PCV replacement around 125K. I also upgraded the brakes to 302mm discs and braided lines

Everything works on it other than the heated seats. AC blows ice-cold.

The odometer failed shortly after I bought it, but I did the cog fix immediately so the 143K (and counting) mileage is genuine. I've done 20K of that in 30 months, which is testament to its solidity. This is a two-owner car with extensive service history including Volvo main dealer until 2015. MOT til Nov 23

As I say, this is a car that needs to go to an enthusiast who'll address the things that need doing and build on its considerable strengths— it has the potential to be a really wonderful example

£9,500 ono

You must be close to heartbroken Tim, I very much recall the extensive work you began on purchase of your super looking beast

Sadly we live in a world of tosspot politicians fit for nothing but lining their own pockets and having done so, demanding the likes of you and I pay for their shear incompetence. ULEZ - what a farce, yet another pocket liner for the greedy / incompetent.

Goes without saying best of luck in ending this sorry tale. First year of ULEZ i racked up over 800 quid in charges in my R’s. I now park them at my girlfriends in Cotswolds, use a compliant mota or get the train, for no other reason than to stop lining the pockets of the current shower of thieves

It is so corrupt that even if you are the London Borough of Bromley and spell out to Sadiq Khan that yoo have the cleanest air in London and this is a crippling stealth tax on the old / less than rich / Self-employed you are ignored and it is introduced regardless

Thanks for the comments

This is my own fault. When the ULEZ expanded, based on some flawed maths, I rashly thought I'd just pay the charges and carry on driving it as I had done, without thinking that the charge would become part of the rationale. Hence, it's only been used for load-lugging necessity or on long journeys that feel more justified.

I don't mind the ULEZ charge or resent selling the T-5R — if I did, I guess I'd move out of London

Moving out of wherever you live isn't the answer, ULEZ is coming to all cities, then towns and eventually the entire country, how long before that happens I don't have a clue. Glasgow city centre will be a ULEZ zone from June which I don't have a problem with, it just means I won't need to go shopping in the city centre again which suits me fine

This is now sold.

Thanks for all your help and support over my few years of Volvo 850 ownership.
