Just to put my 2p's worth in, we have just had our 185hp D5 back from the garage with a £3k bill for a new head and many other parts! not as reliable as some would suggest.

If given the choice again, V8 with LPG

Given yamaha's reputation, They always make amazing engines! From the 1.25 zetec all the way up to the v8 in our XC's, If you manage to get rid of the baffles, It will sound BRUTAL!

They werent sure what caused it , could have been a slipped belt but hadnt snapped. but the evidence they had in front of them was that the valve seats were loose/broken, causing major damage to piston 2, all big end bearings needed replacing as well as the head itself. The acutal cylinder head was a £1600 part on its own direct from volvo 😳

If it's anything like the V8 offered in the early versions of the XC90 -'tis a very nice smooth piece of kit....
