v70 2.5T Geartronic
With a view to buying one, I am looking for information about this model, please from any members with experience of ownership. In particular, reliability, petrol consumption, and whether there any particular issues of which I should be aware.

Long time ago now, but I had two (in series)
Great to drive and the LP turbo gave very smooth acceleration. Fuel consumption was 'orrible 26 mpg if you were lucky. Never had a problem with the engine just the rubbish AWD in those days, although to be fair it was good on the road, just didn't work towing a horse box out of a field. |

26 isn't that bad, my D5 can go as low as that
Only thing to watch is the £500 annual rfl if you can stomach that you'll be fine. Don't discard the 3.2 or T6 either if you can find one, MPG is fairly comparable and they are also very reliable and super smooth

Thank you for your advice, TrueBlue and Sasha, I think the two downsides are a bit heavy for me unfortunately.
Currently I am driving a 2.4i S40, 54 reg, that has been a really good car and now has 130K on the clock, with me since 40K. My third Volvo with this petrol engine (850 est and S80 were others) and in total I have done 300K+ without any problem. Arrival of new pooch means an estate would be a convenient change now, and I am still attracted to the petrol option but lower miles V50s and V70s are now getting quite difficult to find. I have never been really happy driving diesels, and all the significant problems do seem to be diesel related. Having said that I do see their advantages: economy, longevity and plenty of grunt (and I do tow a small caravan), but nevertheless... Thank you again for your help, though, I do appreciate it. |
