Question V70 petrol automatic?

We have had a V70 auto diesel before and it was brilliant. We are now considering getting rid of our V50 and getting another V70. I must be auto and am thinking about a petrol one. I have had enough of DPF's etc. What would be a good fit for a petrol one? i.e. engine size etc. I am not giving up on diesels just looking at the options. Even a XC70 might be an option. Also, are there better year options, meaning is it better to go for a newer one or are the older ones OK (mileage taken into consideration).

Thanks

Brian

Generation 3 petrol cars are rare. Autotrader is currently showing 7 of them vs 300+ diesels. Good luck finding one. It will be even more difficult finding one less than 5 yrs old, if age bothers you.

Thanks. No, age doesn't bother me that much if I can get a good example (how does anyone know if it's good?). To be honest, I will probably go for another diesel. As you say, there are loads of them about. It's just this DPF business.

DPFs are not a problem on these cars.

The big issue is making sure the aux belts are done on time and regularly.

It's driving style that hurts some, or in particular not doing the required type of journeys to enable a full and complete DPF regen.

I know, but on this forum we never here of DPF's giving an issue. I've ended up doing lots of small town runs and the car is fine and its not had a long run in over 4 weeks.

Of all the diesel cars and forums, DPFs are much maligned but never heard of one giving an issue on here.

All diesel P3's other than the 1.6D 16v DRIVe ones have a dry DPF which give lots less hassle than the EOLYS fluid ones. The Volvo engined cars in particular seem to be trouble free.

Petrol wise, you have 2.5T, 3.2, T6 all £500 per year RFL or if you're very lucky the newer Ford 4 cylinder cars, 1.6 T3, 1.6 T4 and 2.0 T5. But they are very very thin on the ground and are of course Powershift not Geartronic
