Default Hot Air not Too Hot

Hey guys,

Have done a search but not mcuh to go on.

After a cold and wet football match last night i wanted to warm my feet up. After about 5 miles of driving i noticed the air coming from the vents was not very hot. at all. Car is an S70 2.5 LPT - any ideas?

Coincidently it has come to my attention the engine temp guage also struggles to get up to speed. could the to be related?

Any advise appreciated

Cheers

might be time for a new thermostat - temp guage should be halfway after a few miles / 5 mins of reasonable driving. If it's not then the engine is constantly cooling, hence why you aren't getting much warm air.

Have a search, there's a howto guide on here for replacing the thermostat, 2 bolts, easy and cheap fix...

Consider going to the main dealer for a pair of new bolts to replace the ones currently holding the stat housing in place, the original ones are made out rather poor grade material so swap them out as part of the stat change - Mike

That isn`t the part!

Seeing as your in Kent go to Lipscombes Volvo Dealers to get the thermostat don`t buy aftermarket especially scantech, you will be sorry in 6 months at the latest and will probably have the same trouble all over again!

A couple of years ago I actually had mine done at the main dealer
a...I was in town next door to the dealer.
b...They could do it there and then...took 20 minutes or so.
c...I couldn't be @rsed to do it myself.
...they charged me £60....you should be seeing less than half that if your doin' yourself.
For me it simply saved me a job on a cold January morning..I was (almost) happy to pay..LOL

Local Indie supplied my V70 thermostat cost £10 when he offered to fit it for £5 I just said "get on with it" as it's not worth opening the bonnet and doing it yourself for £5 - Mike

A doddle to DIY if the bolts come out easily. You need the correct Torx bit.

Stuff some rags around the old housing as you undo the bolts, so that if / when you drop one it's within reach!

Dousing the bolts with Plus Gas or WD40 etc the night before is a good idea.

I did mine earlier this year, buying a new stat from the local motor factor for £11.

The next day I had to do it again, this time buying the stat from GSF - for £10.

As has been said, be a bit choosy where you buy the thermostat from - and don't forget the rubber sealing ring - that will almost certainly be perished.

You'll lose a bit of antifreeze, but not much.

Cheers
