err.. i do still have a problem. the driver display still says check brake light every time i hit the brake, somewhat annoying.

The bulb has not been forced, the bulbs i bought do have the correct offset, as my previous post stated the metal section of the bulb seems to short and the glass part of the bulb is touching the housing.

The bulb illumitates when the ignition is on, and the right hand side one lights up when fogs are on.

Again i ask the question why the error on the display given that the bulbs and lights are working as normal??

I once fitted new bulbs that in theory were the right ones and had the warning light coming on and took it to the Volvo dealer who said it was most likely the bulbs and replaced them on our 440 and that cured the fault. The bulbs I bought did not fit so well in the bulb holder.

I think all you can do is get 2 new volvo stop light bulbs and see how it is . Check the earth wire for the light each side too as a loose one would cause the problem .

I've heard before that using non-Volvo bulbs still causes the bulb out warning to appear, they are pretty sensitive on how they measure the resistance.

Nothing in the handbook says you shouldn't use non-standard bulbs though....
but as ever, they will always say use Volvo original parts.

Default XC70 Brake light / relay fault - fixed!

I had the 'Check Brake Light' error too. The LED light was fine, the rear brake relay was clicking when the pedal was pressed, both bulbs were fine (%*&!$%$ skinned hands - thanks and damn you to hell the Volvo designer briefed with that task)

A bit of judicious wiggling of the relay / pressing it in firmly and hey presto - the brake lights work now, no error message. I can only assume that the fit of the relay is not as great as it should be. A year ago when the car was purchased we had the same fault, Main Stealer charged £50 to sort it, so I assume they replaced the relay with a genuine one.

Anyway, time will tell but next time this warning pops up, just give the relay a wiggle!

I've attached a piccy - see if you can spot the relay ;-).

Cheers

Mike
