Not in my C70, they have silly cream-coloured carpet mats from the factory & they're a nightmare to keep clean! Lol. Which is why we bought the Volvo rubber mats which are also decent quality

The mats in my old XC70 were great. 160k in and they were still like new, only shame was the drivers mat is only really half a mat, something not uncommon these days where there is a step in the carpet near the pedals. This area more than anywhere seems to be a poor design as this is where wear will show if it’s going to. A family friend had a current shape RRSport from new until last year and in 28k miles this step wore away significantly, wrecking the appearance of an otherwise prestine interior.
On my V50, being a later car the original floor mat on the drivers side had a hole in it as they weren’t as good as earlier cars but the carpet itself is OK. The real surprise to me is my CLK which, despite coming from the area of poor build quality across the Mercedes range, the interior and the carpet along with the original floor mats are all in superb condition with not a single loose thread or any indication that it has covered 120k miles or is over 14 years old. It even smells like a new Mercedes inside, no kidding. I agree with VAG carpets being poor. I find that readily noticeable in any VAG car I’m in, not that the motoring press will let you believe such a thing. The worst carpets (and indeed trim all over) in my experience is in older Korean cars. Those big old Kia’s and Hyundai’s from 15-20 years ago wear badly inside, an image they are only just starting to shake off. For good carpets, old Daimler’s with the Lambswool mats are a great alternative if you don’t want a Bentley or a Rolls. It bothers me that in some big executive cars like S Classes (particularly the S Class actually) that are £100k in range topping trim they still give you the same mats you get in a base spec diesel. In the case of Merc it used to be those thick corded jobs, always a mare to get dirt out of but incredibly hard wearing.

On my 4th Volvo in 9 years. And I've always been impressed with the ease of vacuuming the dogs fur in the boot. I can vacuum the boot in a few minutes and not have any fur remaining.
Recently vacuumed a relative's car when they transported my dogs as a favour. After 45 minutes of vigorous vacuuming I had to concede defeat. The fur was stuck! Their car is a brand new Peugeot. Dreadful carpet. |
