How many miles on this '02?
I don't know if you have one problem or two.
Get the codes read by someone who knows Volvos.

As mentioned you need to get the codes read first. Could the the steering sensor or possibly a reluctor ring. Was any work done on or around any of the wheels recently? At 90k neither of these is usual I would say. Wondering if a sensor was left unplugged or if a wire got nicked.

Anti-skid service required brake problems will not stop the car from running,
look at the cem module for any sign of water,
is the fuel pump running,

This is one of the most commonly asked fault questions if you do a search.

Mostly caused by reluctor rings or steering angle sensor.

Ours has this fault and having read the codes it's the steering angle sensor but I can't be bothered to spend the money to fix it (probably about £250) and it's not an MOT fail.

I had this, turned out to be corroded/cracked abs reluctor rings on the front.

I bought a new pair for about £15 from ebay and fitted them myself, problem solved. It's not a hugely complex job but you need to be reasonably confident with the spanners. There are videos showing how it's done on Youtube.

After this job you'll probably need to get the alignment reset.

I agree, very easy job IF AND ONLY IF your axle is not totally fused/rusted into the spindle. In my case no amount of pounding/pressing was gonna separate the two. The mechanic broke the spindle finally getting the two pieces apart. Word to the wise, if you can't get them separated with pounding in the drive, just go buy a wreckyard spindle and axle and give up on installing the reluctor ring altogether.
