Default Missing DPF on used car purchase.

Hi all, not the first thing I was expecting to be posting about but I've just taken my new (to me) C30 D3 to get new tyres and wheel alignment done, and whilst it was up on the ramp I noticed its DPF was gone. It had an MOT done on the 9th, and I bought it last weekend. Anybody know where I stand with regards getting it put right? The user car dealer I bought it from wasn't the one to carry out the MOT, that was the independent garage that's been servicing the vehicle for the last three years. The straight through pipe isn't new. They must have known.

Are you 100% sure it is ment to have one? If it is take it back to the seller and tell them to fit a new one or take the car back.

Yup, supposed to have one. 2010 D3. Its mentionned in the manual. I'd just get him to bolt one in, but the ECU will need reprogramming or it won't regen. Really I'd like it done by Volvo and to send im the bill but I doubt I can do that.

check with volvo that YOUR car is or is not to spec. then get a price, then discuss with the vendor. IF he says -nowt to do with me sold as seen then next stop trading standards - provided the car really is missing the part.

If its had a DPF removed its illegal and shouldn't pass MOT, plus its no longer to 'type' and therefore your insurance should be notified. Take it back, or, speak to trading standards.

The DPF is directly connected to turbo, did you look that far up into engine bay,

You can see it behind engine from engine bay

I'm looking under the car, (it was on ramps) and there's a large heat shielded void approxomately under the gear stick. Photos seem to show a 'cannister' there, whereas all I have is a straight through pipe.

I'd have thought the MOT tester shouldn't have passed it. If so, could get his licence revoked. Probably the seller is your main focus now though.

Take it back to the dealer and ask for your money back or the car fixed.

The D3 has a close proximity cat and dpf which is the exhaust box connected directly to turbo,

The straight pipe your talking about is standard and it is only the 2.0d's and older D5 engines that have it there
