Volvo Carpets, Better Than The Rest?
Now, I'm not entirely sure if this topic should be in this section or in the Lounge and Introductions section, but I thought this section was more appropriate.
This is something that a very small number of people I've ever spoken to have ever noticed or considered, but as a self-employed car valeter I have noticed this a lot; The carpets and mats in Volvos, old or new, are bloody brilliant. I cleaned a 2 year old V40 XC this past week for a regular customer (who's had me clean a Fiat 500 and a Skoda Yeti in the past). What I noticed is just how much easier the car was to clean than, well, every other car I've tried. Skodas are by far the worst in my experience with velcro-like carpets holding in every bit of dust, dirt and fluff. The aforementioned Yeti took 40 minutes of vacuum cleaning and still looked frankly not very good. 15 minutes in the V40 and it was quite literally spotless. He was a dog owner as well! In my experience the only car that came close for easiness of cleaning was a year-old Range Rover. So in short, Volvo has very nice carpets compared to other cars of all price ranges. Yes this is such a trivial and OCD thing to birng up, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this? As a side-note, I must say the quality of exterior paint-finish is of a very high standard, as well.

Well i'm still using front carpet mats from an old 760 from the 1980's in another car which i have done over 230000 miles in ., they seem to last forever .. The interiors of volvos stay clean due to the Air quality system which has a very substantial pollen filter .

I must admit I do like the the carpets in my 240 - they're like velour, mind you newer Volvos are not far different.

I agree Kerplod. The OE carpet mats in my 2011 C30 are still immaculate, 105k miles. And with the 'pop-in' thingies they never move or displace. I've never asked but new ones from Volvo must be pretty pricey if their quality is anything to go by.

I'm also referring to even the floor carpets underneath - it's all so easy to clean. It never holds in any dirt. Even my 25 year old 240 with 190,000 miles wasn't actually that difficult to clean.

My drivers mat lasted only 5 years and 30k miles on my R-Design V70.
Like the aux belt tensioner, maybe it was a bit of Ford cost cutting |

They are decent.
However, the carpets in my dad's '96 BMW 7 series were significantly nicer. Not exactly surprising, given the cost differential. And of course, the carpets in Bentleys and Rolls Royce are legendary. Coming back to realistic comparisons though, I think the carpets in my Honda Accord were almost as good, although the boot was much cheaper stuff. I've always noticed that skodas have particularly nasty carpets, even the Superb. |

Wanted to get some mats so as to spare/preserve the originals...Simply couldn't find ANY aftermarket ones that came anywhere near it.
