It's a growing worry of mine that buying a potential modern car is risky because there seems to be a generation of young drivers who think that new leased cars don't 'need' servicing or rather don't know or care about having their cars serviced. I think it will become rare to find a properly maintained modern car in a few years time.
The only savior to this is when the car tells the driver it needs a service, but that's up to the conscience of the driver. I think because no-one really works on their own cars anymore at home then the kids don't become interested in the workings of cars or understand why it might need an oil change or what that involves. I do all my own servicing, my neighbours must think my cars are 'crap' because I'm frequently poking about under the bonnet or under the car.

Me to.
[QUOTE=green van man;2484962]
One reason I keep my cars a long time, better the devil you know. Morris Marina, 1979. Bought 1982 @ 14,000 miles. Donated to the MM Owners Club about 2002 @ about 140,000. Only let me down once when radiator sprung serious leak whilst towing caravan back to Tyneside from West Sussex. Current 1992 940 estate, bought as seen from dealer’s trade-ins in 2005 @ 100,000 miles. Now at 220,000 miles and counting. Bodywork now a bit frayed at the edges and needing some TLC but nothing serious. Usual consumable things replaced over the years. |
