Default Law Changing for Electric motors and hybrids

Seem it is to become law for electric, and hybrids to emit a sound, all new cars to be fitted by law next year, and to be fitted to all existing cars by 2021 I think.
not too sure if it is related to speed, or only required up to certain speed, and type of noise, something about white noise?

So does Volvo emit a noise in electric mode? if not, wonder what cost will be to retrofit a system?

It's a light buzz, not really audible.

Surely as its related to a Hybrid / EV being too quiet, and therefore dangerous to pedestrians, it should also apply to all cars, including very quiet petrols. Otherwise it makes no sense.

"If your car is < x Decibels below y speed, then emit sound."

Look out Rolls Royce...

Volvo's to my knowledge do not emit a noise, (according to Volvo) at the moment, they will of course will have to introduce it to meet the law, and will do, BUT and here is why I am not happy, as I contacted them before I took my car from them, as I had heard about this 6 months ago, and asked about the retrofit and cost, and why it was not all ready installed (Volvo being so safety conscience) if the law was to change to cover all electric cars.

Their answer was pretty well bull **** to say we will only do what is required by law at the time, there is no law change to cover older vehicles that they are aware of.

I was not happy and will be really peed off if there his a law change and I have to spend a fortune to modify something that should be standard on electric cars / hybrids for safety reasons, just common sense.

Even Jaguar have added noise emitter to the Ipace to future proof it.

Honestly I do think it is a danger and evidence have proved so far that people have been hit by moving, especially reversing electric cars / hybrids, but so far most never get reported as they are not hurt enough.

I can see someone in Whitehall contemplating a new tax to be known as the low noise tax.

The proceeds of this new tax on electric and hybrids would be held in a "special fund" to compensate any hard of hearing pedestrians injured by one of these low noise emitting pesky vehicles.

tbh you would be more likely to knock someone over who is blind, people with impaired hearing have eyes, like all people who have eyes but never look, trouble now days most peoples eyes, they are looking down at their frigging phones.
