Did you say they replaced something on the front end or am i mixing this up with a thread on another forum?
They replaced the track rod ends.

They found some more corrosion as well

Getting quite a bit depressing.

It was an EU directive, introduced deliberately to prevent rear fogs being mistaken for brake lights when they were suddenly switched on...not that I personally think it is likely, but, apparently there had been some incidents blamed on it and that was the reason for its introduction.

I forget the exact spec, but on new cars built after a certain date if the fog lamp is integral with the standard tail light cluster there should be only one fog lamp, and that should be in the offside cluster in the UK.

If the fog light is separate from and more than 170mm (I may be slightly off on that number, its been a while since I had cause to brush up on jt) from the light clusters then new cars can have two, but arent obliged to, typically mounted symmetrically down near the number plate or in the bumper. Ironically Peugeot fitted two down in the bumper on my Pug.

Hmmmmmm, interesting - happy to say both manufacturers of my wee beasties seem to have ignored the EU Infective as they both appear to have twin rear fogs in the rear clusters. Admittedly the NS one doesn't appear to be working on one of them but there appears to be a bulb present. I'll have to remove the cluster and have a look another day though.

Both were made after the 940 had ceased production so would be in the category of falling under the Directive you mention.

Here are the EU requirements for the construction and characteristics of a rear foglamp. About 6,800 words.

https://unece.org/fileadmin/DAM/tran...13/R038r3e.pdf

And here are the rules about how and where lamps are attached to a car. About 39,000 words.

https://unece.org/fileadmin/DAM/tran...5/R048r12e.pdf

The number and position of rear foglamps is on page 56 in the second, longer of the two documents. It allows for one or two.

By contrast, the US constitution is famously 4,440 words.

Makes you kind of proud, and relieved, to be British really!
