Default S40 anti skid service

I own a 54 plate S40 which is displaying the Anti-Skid service required . The car has just had its yearly service at an independant garage , and the mechanic managed to identify a 0130 brake pressure signal . My local Volvo dealership ( Stoneacre ) advised that a new hydraulic master unit would solve the problem at a cost of £740.00 . Also as my car has an early chassis number,Volvo could not cover any costs .
I decided to speak to Volvo customer service , who basicly said my car was too old for Volvo to cover costs . Not sure if I'm been fobbed off or not , has anyone else had this on a 54 plate ?

To be fair it is 9 years old? I'm in the same boat in that my car is also a 2004 but fingers crossed I've not got the Anti-Skid message - YET! No doubt it will pop its head up at some point.

There are places you can send the ABS ECU off to and they will recondition it for approx. £150 - £250 depending on where you go. I think this is your best option.

You cannot just get one from a scrappy or dismantler as they are coded to the car and another one will not work on yours if it has already been coded to another.

Since then I've joind this forum and a lot of people reckoned Volvo should cover the cost. Got on to Volvo and questioned this and they put their hands up and have informed me (I have the email if anyone wants proof) that the main dealer will be reimbursing me for the full cost next week.

That's what these forums are all about folks so all I can say is a HUGE thank you.
Hi Mate Please can you forward me the message. My Volvo S40 has recently displayed this message. It would be rally helpful if you could forward the message sajimathews4@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks

I have had the anti skid message come up on mine on weds, have an 08 plate 2.0d, turned the Car on and the message appeared. When you say Hydraulic Master Unit, is that the same as ABS module? Have you had it replaced? I Was in Inverness at the time went to Arnold Clark Inverness and was advised they couldn't book the car in until 6th Sept, I was up there visiting relatives and wanted to know the car was safe to drive the 450 miles home, they said it was but ABS would be inactive. Drove home last night, been to an independant local garage this morning and had it put on the diagnostics and am getting the same message: ABS 0130 Brake Pressure Sensor Signal Missing .....is this what people who have had the ABS module were getting? When I spoke to Arnold Clark in Inverness they looked on the Volvo system and said that my vehicle was listed as having a possible problem with the ABS module. I have the car booked in with Brindley Volvo stourbridge on 9th Sept, but want to be armed with as much info as possible. Any advice welcome. cheers

Yes, the 0130 code depicts it is the ABS ECU.

The dreaded anti skid service warning come on the other day, the car was due to go to the garage( HR Owen ) for regular service so asked them to look at it. They then informed me after running a diagnostic check that it was a faulty
ABS module but they were happy to inform me that Volvo UK will be picking up the tab for this as it is a known issue and my model is covered up till 2013...The bill for this would have been in excess £1200 for diagnostic,ABS bits and labour... So if any of you also have this warning come up on a model about the same age as mine get check out at a Volvo garage with luck you will be covered.
Dear Luigi, Thanks for the information. My C30 car (registered 2008) stopped dead the other day after I tipped the brakes to slow down. The Anti-skid message came up. THe car wouldn't move a further metre. Thank God I was not on a motorway. I'm in the Republic of Ireland so I cannot work out what year your car was registered. Can you let me know please? I am still waiting for the dealership to get back to me to tell me what is wrong but I anticipate a row about who pays for the repairs. Thanks. Emer

Dear Camevad
I have just had a potentially extremely dangerous experience here in Ireland. The car stopped dead after I tipped the brakes to slow down coming up to a T-junction. A message came up: Anti-skid requires service'. I am two days waiting for the dealership (Spirit Motor Group, Sandyford) to come back to me about it - yesterday they said they didn't know what the problem was..... They don't seem to get the gravity of what happened - imagine if I had been on a Motorway driving at high speed? Could you please send me a copy of that email from Volvo saying they would cover the cost? Many thanks. Emer: emernib@mac.com.

Damn, just had this message pop up today! Has anyone had any luck getting money back from Volvo recently? Can you still use an indy or do you need to go to a Volvo garage?

Any help/info is much appreciated!
