P2 V70 - new shoes. Rolls forward with HB on but not back!
JUst got round to having my shoes changed - my sling backs were killing me - as the car was creeping forward on slight slopes. Got home and its even worse as it won't stop on a 2 degree slope - despite the mech testing it and it not moving. However, if I face backwards down a slope the handbrake holds!!!!!!!
This guy I've used for over 20 years so Im sure its nothing he's done or not done as I was there all the time he worked on it. Any ideas? BTW There's no trace of the delam probs or their after effects as I checked each drum for that and no weird noises since |

I have always thought the HB on these is crap, from new.
Mrs's Corsa slows the earths rotation. GENTLY 'hold' the HB on (no rathcet) for 5sec every few mins on an easy drive on an empty safe road. If shoes are correct and the cables are good the shoes will benefit from this bedding in. Be gentle tho these shoes are a bit tetchy and can cause catastrophic fails.. |

Thanks for the replys.
The drums dont exhibit any signs of real wear and, because its manual, the handbrake does get used. Ive bedded them in but they are no better. Rod have you a link pls as that sounds interesting? |

Clan why?
I've fitted, and had fitted, no stealer Ferodo and Mintex brakes for over 40 years and never missed a beat. These are all I'll have fitted to my cars. These people make them for the likes of Ford and Volvo so how does paying more make a difference? Why would they make brakes that do not work? I'm not fitting chinese crap here! |

Clan. Don't spit your dummy out.
We all feel like that at times but at the end of the day only the OP knows what they want to do or can do. You chose to walk the path of the main dealers. I, for my sins, as I have been brought up by a proper mechanic dad, chose not to spend as much but achieve identical ends. Just so you know, it appears the issue is actually related to a mix up of VIN numbers so potentially wrong parts supplied against my index number. That can happen anywhere anytime as I've had issues with company cars where that occurred. Main dealers suffer from it too as few people actually do a proper comparison of what's supplied vs whats coming off and few technician have real experience (their gut feel) to call upon. Keep posting dude but try not to take it personally that someone doesn't fall down at you feet under the weight of your wise words. I used to feel teh same but now I just feel "fine that's their choice". If you are proved correct you simply laugh into your airbag... Now put that dummy back pronto |

Hi Dave ,
It's just that i have been in this game for 40 + years and have seen it all before . The friction qualities of the non volvo shoes are rubbish or should i say just standard drum brake material . The volvo ones are softer and shaped in the centre for a reason as all they have to do is hold the car not stop it from high speed . just fit the proper ones and enjoy a handbrake as it was designed . when it is working properly you should be able to lock the rear wheels with just 2 clicks by pulling the lever with one finger . The sun is shining , let's go and enjoy it .. Volvo don't have connections with china parts yet , Poland Yes !
