Software update. Major failure
So, having tried to update sat nav, it screwed the whole cars infotainment software. After two unsuccessful visits to local dealers, and remote tinkering by Volvo headquarters in Sweden, its got to have a completely new IHU installed (whole head unit including screen) which is being shipped from Sweden for replacing in my T5 FE in a couple of weeks time.
Anyone else had such a dramatic problem when updating their sat nav? Even issues a bit less extreme? |

No, but given the problems with windows updates I'm just glad I use Android devices.
Herein lies the big worry with autonomous cars, if they cannot get a sat nav update right how safe can autonomous cars be? Paul. |

Ours also.
Daughter bought used my2010 XC70 from main dealer. Soon realised that the satnav was not working as it should, dont know why. Complete system was replaced under Selekt warranty.
Agree completely with Paul re autominous cars. That discussion would fill a book, never mind a forum thread. Last edited by Ian21401; Apr 25th, 2019 at 17:55. |

That's like saying if they cannot make moon rockets 100% reliable how safe can an aeroplane be?

The point that all those in favour of automation will not see is that even fail safe devises may not fail safely when they fail. Even a fail safe that stops the vehicle may be dangerous if it stops in an inappropriate place and electronic devices are generally stop go devices that give very little warning of malfunction before failing. So I repeat, if they cannot update a sat nav without it failing compleatly and needing replacement how safe autonomous cars? Paul. |

Well, all I can say is just stay home and lie in bed if you are too scared to live your life.
