2007 S80 suspension noise
Hi there,
I've noticed a suspension noise going over bumps. I brought the car to a local garage last week and they kindly put it up on the ramp free of charge, but the mechanic said everything was fine. It was the usual story of it'll need to get worse to be identified, but I don't think that's the case because I can hear it. The suspension noise sound like a popping/knock sound when the front passenger side tyre hits a speed bump. You don't have to be going fast either. The garage told me the lower control arms were fine, as well as the drop links and track rods. I'm not sure what else could be suspect, but I'm thinking the rollbar bushes? Maybe the rollbar itself is moving because the bushes are knackered? I had the car jacked up before bringing it to a garage for a look myself & the balljoint boots look like new & there doesn't seem to be play in the wheel when testing using the noon-six or nine-three method. However, I did hear a knocking noise when I done the noon-six test, but couldn't see movement anywhere. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I know that suspension noises can be hard to find and describe, but hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction or maybe knows common suspension faults on this model. How many miles? I have known struts noisey in 30k. It's as if there is free play in the damper before it starts working.
Try jacking the car on the chassis and put a pry bar under the wheel to lift it, see if there is free movement and noise. If possible get a mate to either pry or look. Also check top mounts I replaced mine with febi bilstien from local factor for about £15 a side. The volvo ones that came off were Fo Mo Co. Paul. |

101k. The strut mounts could be a possibility like you say - I'll have a look. The car seems to ride fine, no wollowing/bouncing over bumps.
Thanks. |
