Front and Rear Monroe 4C replacing shockers
Hi everyone and happy belated Easter,
It is with great pleasure that I can be helpful for the whole Forum. I struggled a bit but finally, I had my 4C shockers replaced. I can happily let the forum knows that for the XC70 MKII 2007 onwards the following Monroe part numbers replace the original Volvo (which are made by Monroe anyway). Bear in mind that if you own an XC70 MKII 2007, when you provide the VIN number to any shop, their system will tell the following Monroe part numbers do not fit. Do not believe it, I just changed mine and they are perfect! Front Axle: Monroe 2510, between £350/£370 a pair on eBay Rear Axle: Monroe C1513, between 360/380 a pair on eBay Hope this help. Regards. More shocking issues
Hello all.
My MY2011 XC70 is riding very hard and I'm considering replacing all 4 shocks - ouch! I think that the hard ride is causing other issues too - a Febi lower arm has failed after just 2 years / 14k miles (just collected Volvo OE part). A previous post mentioned 'calibration'; can anyone advise as to if this is really necessary please? I might need to replace the height sensors too; I sometimes get a warning which suggests one is misbehaving. Does anyone know of a source for these please? My local stealer has just quoted a list of £166 per corner! Would a faulty height sensor cause the shocks to ride hard? Many thanks in anticipation of wisdom. Rob So many questions, so little brass.

That seems to be cheaper than the Monroe sold units and they are supposed to actually be the same as Monroe make for Volvo. So it looks like your Volvo dealer is the cheapest source of these rare beasts.

lots of volvo replacement parts need enabling to let the modules know a new part is fitted. some times to extinguish any warning lights or dtcs.

I don't know for certain but it seems plausible. The Suspension Control Module processes inputs from the ride height sensors and VIDA shows DTCs associated with height sensor failure as being associated with "Active chassis function, Does not work".
If it were me, I'd sort that first and then see where I was with it. My understanding is that short of a breakers, 4C shocks are *very* expensive, and that's if you can still obtain them.

This was posted yesterday, so it seems that they are still available and cheaper than they were four years ago!

That reads as a height sensor and not the shock to me - however I know very little about this system, other than it can be expensive, as never had a car with it .

You're absolutely correct. I was a bit slapdash reading the post.

Thanks Guys.
I replaced a height sensor about 3 years ago at about £100 from the local dealership. I was surprised about the current price. Many parts under these models are ‘FoMoCo’ and can be sourced at much better prices, but not these it seems. I was hoping that freeing up the very stiff plastic link arms would fix it, no luck there - I still get the occasional ‘Active Chassis Service’ warning. My problem is that, other than the dealership, I’m struggling to get plugged in to anything that will tell me which corner it is unhappy with. Is there anything, other than Vida, that will report on individual modules - Carly, iCar? I have found Monroe electronic shocks at around £500 (front pair) and £350 (rear pair) and they’re easy enough to change, but lack of access to Vida to ‘calibrate’ things worries me. My car appears to be a slightly older, almost identical, car to yours Tatsfield. It now has 147k and lives in a pretty hostile environment half a mile up a farm track. The early morning ride massage isn’t always welcome. Rob
