Mine also makes a sound but it's not weird and I can barely notice it.

Yeah I guess so, never noticed it on Land Rover vehicles but I appreciate they have a completely different setup.

Also the air compressor being so noticeable when you get out of the car and you have it set to auto lower mode, never get used to hearing the compressor lowering the car! Guess thats just how Volvo made the system!

I suppose it's the air load/relief valve that is heard, not the compressor, at least not while lowering the car.

Went over a bump today and at the top of the bump it made a flip flop sort of noise.

Was weird as it did it near the top and on the top of the bump, normally it makes noise at the bottom of the bump but not this time which was strange!

Also went over a pothole and got a squeak out of one of the wheels, think that was just I hit it at the wrong time but can't say I've heard it squeak at all before.

Does anyone else's make those noises?

Thanks :-)

Air suspension is not particularly good over potholes or speed bumps. You may get slightly better range of smoothing out with softer sidewalk tyres and it lower tyre pressure with obvious downside of running higher risk of tyre failure - I think my18 and 19 been getting softer sidewall tyres so perform better over mildly broken road but ultimately when suspension has to take it on speed bump or pot hole volvo’s Air is one of the worse ones around - certainly not q7 or Rr. It will sound different for different degrees of extremity - I try to avoid them all to reduce the damage as Volvo techs will okay it until you are out of warranty or until it’s totally unmissable and in recall journal like the knock with early model 16.
If you want a complete piece of mind go to good indy suspension specialist. Then pay them to take pictures and explain so you have proof for Volvo if it’s damage. More likely it’s some weak but not damaged bushings somewhere that are making it perform poorly but passVolvo standards as they are rubbish by design. You can go through a big back and forth and if you persevere might get somewhere but the path of least pain is to get that guy to do it for you if he can put smth better than Volvo that will fit.

Yeah the air suspension doesn't seem to handle sudden changes at all well when it comes to pot holes and speed bumps, which is a shame as it seems to do everything else rather well!

(Barring the noise the compressor makes, I'm sure that wouldn't cost much to fix).

Does yours make a weird flip/flop noise at the top of a speed bump, I know it wasn't bottoming out as when I went back that way later in the day I put it in off road mode and did it at the same speed and got the exact same noise and I was miles off the road!

I find no problem with the way air suspension handles bumps, but it's no hoovercraft.
It's not worse than standard suspension to me. Perhaps expectations are higher?
And I don't hear the compressor.

Likewise - same experiences and that is coming to my 1st Air Suspension XC60 from two previous XC60's both with the adaptive 4C suspension system.
As regards the compressor sound, the only semi-noticeable sound is when the car auto lowers upon ignition switch off - though still not sure if that sound is from a release valve letting out air in a controlled manner or the actual compressor pump?

Lowering the car doesn't involve a compressor as such, so it is probably the relief valve.
Although perhaps not intentional, I like to hear when the car goes down.

I have exactly the same problem.I m an owner of a new (MY 23)xc60 T8 with airsuspension and 22 alloys(an aftermarket strat bar) and when i m moving with the battery(and not with the combustion engine)everything is quiet so i can hear this annoying sound(with high frequency )when i m in a bumpy road.I be brought the car twice at the dealership and after keeping the car for 2 days the told me that its a normal sound from the airsuspension.I told them that its not normal after paying 85K euros for a car like that to hear that stupid noise everytime i m coming out of my garage. The car has 4K km and i ll bring it back to the dealership in a few day cause the have to replace a small stabilizer that is a bit loose(as they said).
So do you think i can do something to get rid of this stupid noise?
