I have the same problem and thinking about changing the sender unit. Could you please describe what you mean? How can a worn out resistor cause symptoms like that? The car stops because there is air in fuel line at low tank level. The resistor is there to let the car measure the fuel level. Am I right? In case of "bad" signal is there a valve which can close the fuel line? Or how is it possible then? I am asking because I am curious.
The tank is not empty when this kind of failure happens.
