Default XC70: Missing wheel nut key

Recently bought car and foolishly did not remember to check it had the key for the locking wheel nuts. Oh nuts!

Just started looking for solutions. Is it not possible for Volvo to replace or give a duplicate? If it was the car keys, I wouldn't have to consider buying special tools, breaking the lock, or welding a door handle to my ignition!

Any suggestions on the best solution?

Dealers have the full set of oem wheel bolt keys. You may get away with a half hour labour charge to get them off.

May be worth doing a price check on a replacement set of locking bolts and key from ebay before purchasing a new key from the dealer, if they do just a key and don't charge for a new set.

Grease the locking bolts up when replacing as they have a tendency to seize, normal bolts are ok, but the key socket shreds.

take a look inside your document wallet that has the service book, handbook etc, and there may be a folded up piece of white A4 paper which is a wheel nut information card with the wheel nut key code on it.

if you have this information card (you probably would have not noticed it before) the key code will be on here, and the number to call. you pay this company directly and they can issue you a replacement key. i believe it costs around 10 to 15 euros and they send them out the same day, though it may have changed since the last time i dealt with them. Volvo never stored the wheel key information (though i dont know why) but if you have this info in your dosuments you can get a replacement. Dealers wont be able to help you other than removing them completely if the need be, or supplying a new set once off, if you want them.

The dealer can help . the correct proceedure is they obtain the master set from volvo and determine from that which one is the correct one and can then order from McGuard in germany the correct numbered key . . This process can take a week though .
Even a dealer will find it very difficult removing a whole set of later higher security locking bolts where the key has been lost ..
