S40 1.8i GDI
Hi there,
I have the above volvo with the gdi engine. However I seem to have a problem occasionally with what seems like noisy tappets. It sounds like a tractor on occasions - not much help from the dealers. Only 25000 miles on the engine when the problem was noticed.I feel it may be an oil/ oil filter problem. It only happens occasionally on starting , may last 5 / 10 minutes - there is no apparent pattern to the problem. Dealer suggested skimming the head as a solution - I have my doubts. What would happen in another 25000miles.Its out of warranty and this could cost £2000 !!!!! My First Volvo - not impressed. Aongus |

I would change your dealer, as this is known problem with this engine and is in Volvo's database of problems.
I requires that a head decoke is carried out and is expected to re occur every 30,000 or so. So be warned. |
