Thanks and that is what I suspected. Essentially nothing indicated unless there is a fault.

The FoMoCo fuse components don't exactly inspire me! Could they have been made any cheaper?

Having fitted my towbar at end of last year I had only used it a couple of times with a new bike rack with no indication on the dash. Last weekend I hooked up the old trailer for a trip to the dump and before reaching the end of the drive a message had flashed up staing 'trailer indicator malfunction'. Turns out there was a dodgy connection in the trailer harness.

I've seen the indication too, mainly when towing other owner's trailers. Not everybody maintain as good as I do with my own stuff...

But I tried it out the first time by simply removing a light bulb on my own trailer, to find out how it worked.

I purchased my first XC70 from new and after I'd bought it, needed a towbar. At the time I was an OE only person for accessories, so looked it up on the Volvo website - £440 OK, still wanted it so arranged to have it fitted by HR Owen in London. All went well, came to pick it up and the bill was £880 According to them, that was the list price as just an accessory sold. Much discussion took place and I told them that that was the price on the website, so we both looked and nowhere did it say "only at the time of purchase of a new car" against the price, so they had to relent and let me have it at the website price - phew but they weren't happy!

Considering what the cost is in Sweden, ready on car, the GBP 880 is a bit expensive, but not outrageous. At least not for a dismountable one.

All programmed up yesterday and working. Took my bike rack as a tester too. Another job done.

Default Enable Trailer Control Module

2016 V60 towbar fitted using Volvo wiring kit. Now needs TCM "enabling" i.e software amendment/upgrade for the module. Dealer quote is £80.95!

The car was only serviced a couple of months ago and allegedly software checked and upgraded, so the rest of it should be up to date.

I gather the Diagnostics are standard OBD2 fitting (?) used by many auto electricians, so is there any source, OTHER than the dealers, for the software?
