Default Bye bye V70

Hi all

We have had our 2011 V70 D5 R-Design for 2 years now. An absolute peach of a vehicle and one that we will be sad to go. (Our earlier V50 ended as a complete disaster when the dmf failed and the repair work was not carried out satisfactorily.)

However, with the high mileage we do, it was proving too costly to run (no regrets because the D5 is a dream to drive!) but the main issue was the insufficient space in the rear seats. We have two young kids in car seats and I have the driver's seat some way back protruding into the valuable rear leg room.

Don't hate me but I had to bite the bullet and get a people carrier (Toyota Verso) to accommodate our fast-growing kids (and dog) which is critical because as a family, we do a lot of long-distance driving. This should serve us well in the next few years but I promise to return to Volvo once the child seats are no longer required.

All the best, and cheers for your time in the past few years.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving, I understand the issue of rear leg room. We have just changed our XC70 as we no longer need a tow car and I was keen to return to petrol as fuel costs are not an issue with us. Unfortunately Volvo didn't have anything suitable for our needs, but one day I would like to return to the fold; perhaps when I just drive on normal roads and stay away from tracks and fields.

Ha, without intending to, I alluded to leaving the forum. No chance, I will keep my eyes peeled to keep abreast of Volvo issues because I'm determined to return to the fold when we no longer need a people carrier. We will probably not have a dog in the next few years so will be looking at a nice saloon next time (S60 or S80?).

Enjoy your new car - I have always liked Subarus!

Would the in built rear booster seats not cure the problem?

Yes, they would have been convenient but alas, not fitted to our car.

Besides, a people carrier makes sense at the moment as we will be able to ferry their cousins around now in the same car rather than take both our cars!

Volvo should do a 7 seater S-Max type car, bet it'll sell really well. XC-90 is to much 4x4 for some and V70 not family friendly enough for bigger families.

I have wondered why Volvo don't produce a people carrier type vehicle that is not a 4x4. Seems bizarre given the popularity of them. They have certainly lost (temporarily) my custom for not having a suitable vehicle. Shame as I do like the cars!

I agree. I have said this before in threads. If they did two MPV's - one Scenic size and the other Espace size, I am pretty sure they would 'fly off the shelves'!

Regards

Unfortunately I think it would completely destroy the brand... the XC90 is about as far as I think they could go down the MPV route, and they seriously need a new one.

I too have small kids and I feel rear legroom is the biggest drawback of this vehicle. They have booster seats and their feet are always resting on the back of the front seats - I am 6' tall. I'm sad because the car is rather lengthy and the trunk is - for my needs - too deep. I would happily give up 10" from the trunk to have more space for the rear leg room. I was looking at some Mazda sedans - smallest ones - that are shorter than the Volvo and have more rear leg room.
