Default V70 2011 model front tyre wear

I have done approx 9,500 miles in the V70 since new (delivered new in July and still with the original factory tires) and the tread on the front tyres is approximately 2-3 mm before it levels with the indicators.

Is this normal wear for a mixture of motorway and A & B road driving. The wear on both of the front are even so it is not worn on the edge.

I spoke to the dealership who advised that it is normal and i will probably get another 1-2k miles.

I am a bit disappointed with the wear and undecided whether to continue with the Continental brand or switch to a harder tyres i.e. dunlop

any comments appreciated.

I have the 08MY V70 D5, I believe it's the same as yours.
My Factory front tyres did 15k miles, I replaced them with Pirelli P6000 and I have just changed them again at 35k miles.
The rears are factory fit still, but Mitchelin not Continentals.
The Pirelli's did 5k more than the Mitchelin's.
V70's have always been a bit heavy on front tyres.

Thanks - I have the D5 manual with the latest 205 engine which i think is the same as the 185 but remapped for extra power. I do put my foot down when moving up the gears and most of it is driving on motorway at a reasonable 'high' speed

I might change them to either pirelli or dunlop.

Hi, I have had 3 V70 D5's and the best I got out of the fronts is 10-12K and whilst I don't crawl along I do mix the driving between motorway and local. The new D5 205 only has 500 miles but my expectations haven't changed so I shop around and get the best deals with what is available at the time. However, it is a big car with everything at the front (engine & drive) and I do fill the thing up with people and gear alot so its pulling some weight too - so a small price to pay for all the benefits of having a V70. Rears last for 36k though!

As posted previously, my 09 D5 front covered 62,500 miles before being replaced and I've just had the latest service and was told that the rears will need replacing shortly - they have covered 73,000. The were Continentals (though will not be replaced by them as it's a lease car!).

You got 62,500 miles out of a single set of front tyres?! How did you manage that?! Are you carrying it around the country on a trailer?!

Thanks to all for writing back - I got the tyre shop to check the tread and apparently i have 6mm left on the front and 8mm on the rear. I am not sure what it is new but i am guessing around 10mm 'cos the tyre fitter did say that the rear were nearly new !!

When the tread level with the indicators they advised me to start thinking about changing then since they will be at 2mm (1.6 is legal requirement).

I have done 9600 miles since july so will update when it is time to change.

Generally I think 8mm is the tread depth on a new tyre. I had Conti SportContact2 (235/45/17) on my Passat and would get between 15,000 and 18,000 on the fronts and 35,000 on the rears. If I get something like that from the D3 V70 I'd be content as it's 200kg heavier and a bit more powerful than the Passat.

Get between 15 - 18,000 on fronts with 18" Fortuna rims and 4C in intermediate.

Rears see high 25-30,000. Mostly motorway miles.

Two sets replaced. Continentals is my preference.

Respect to the driver who manages 60,000+.

I'm astounded at the high mileage I've got from them tbh. Around 75% of my driving is motorway (80 - 85mph if I can) and during the week it's mainly just me in the car. Otherwise we are usually a family of four in the car with mixed driving and, as you'll know, wives and daughters don't travel light so we cram the boot to capacity and head for the continent.

Because the tyre replacement is included in the lease deal I have I can honestly say that I don't try to preserve them - I don't hang around and just drive it normally.

Interestingly the garage said it's not unusual to see high mileage like this on the rears. Maybe it's because where I live it's very flat??
