I have an aux connector in the centre armrest section. Does that mean if I plug my phone into that and make a call it will utilise the mic in the car and put the call audio through the speakers?

No, that's for playing music or similar from a player with line output.

As far as I know, no, not through your mobile. You must put a SIM into the car's phone and use that.
Back when this was a common arrangement, many operators offered a dual SIM card option for their subscriptions. You could call out from any, even both at the same time, but had to change which card should accept incoming calls when you entered and exited the car. Now, when everyone supports Bluetooth handsfree instead, demand for dual card solutions has ceased. |

I had the same situation in my last Mercedes. The steering wheel had phone controls but they weren't usable without a built-in phone. I fitted a Parrot MKI 9000 and was very pleased with it. It has voice control, so the inability to use the steering wheel buttons and built-in microphone didn't matter so much. The Parrot control panel is very unobtrusive.
