I have michelin crossclimates on my car. Not much opportunity to test them on white stuff where I live, but they are a very quiet, smooth riding tyre that grips very well in normal dry+wet conditions, had no issues with deep puddles etc, cant knock them.
The michelin has to be on a par with its main competitor the Goodyear Vector.

My main route are mainly motorways and A roads with about 10 miles of B roads over some hills. However most of the time I have to take diversions into country roads to avoid traffic hence why considering snow tyres. Saw an advert for Michelin Cross Climates so a bit interested in that as could be used all year round. edit: Nokian so-so review here, plenty of understeer and poor wet grip : http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nokian/WR-A4.htm Looks like Continental is the one to go for, buy very pricey : http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Co...t-TS-850-P.htm

You are right, I have used them before, and they were impressive, Personally I tend to take most reviews with a large pinch of salt, they are so often so contradictory with other reviews.

My dad has had Nokian winter tyres before on his Yeti and said they were awesome. He went past Audi Quattros that were on summer tyres!

I had the same on my S40 and they were great in the snow, they were terrible in the wet though, especially once they had covered a few miles but still loads of tread left. Dangerous to the point that I was having to pretty much take roundabouts at walking pace.

Strange as mine have been brilliant in the wet. Much better than my summer Latitude 3s. Read somewhere that they had to pumped up to recommended max pressure otherwise the sidewalls are too flexy

Winter tyres are no longer effective once they reach 4mm of tread. Ive had Nokians and rate them highly. Ive also had crossclimates and for this country feel they are the ideal compromise. Nothing beats dedicated winter or summer tyres for the appropriate season.

CrossClimates
Hi MCV60 - Did you ever get a chance to assess the Cross Climates performance in poor conditions?
