Default Electric Window motors on 340 1.7GL

Both our front electric window are knackered and we were wondering what the best way to fix them would be? Have recently started to use EuroCarParts and they have a universal electric window kit for £85. Question would be we were just planning on changing the motors (which is what we assume is wrong) so could we just put the new motors in? Or would we have to redo the whole thing? Anyone got any ideas if these windows can be fixed without buying new motors? As when I mentioned it to the guy in Eurocarparts he went 'oh no no no ask your local garage'. But we don't really have one! Just keen to get these windows fixed for the upcoming summer and to avoid embarrasment at carparks, bridge tolls etc when we have to get out the car to pay!

Cheers for any advice
DD

Clean all contacts, that might do the trick. Other than that, find second hand motors at breakers like Braydon in London. They do mail order.

Depending on where you are, I have both motors available. They are both working fine. I also have the central locking motors and switch if they are of any use to you. In fact, I have a complete 360 GLT to break. I am in Newport, if any use email me on cbaa@ntlworld.com

are you sure its the motors that have gone or is it just seized up solid?

My windows were completely seized but when I took the motors out they worked fine. Lots of WD40 and grease and it freed up nicely. No charge!:)

It might be worth checking that the switches are making working. I have had one 360 and two 240's suffer from switches failing to make electrical contact.

Hope that helps, Peter.

Our passenger window mechanism went. I took it out twice...stripped the motor out, etc, but it seemed to have 'lost strength' - maybe partially burned out.

We just got a whole new mechanism off a scrapper, just to be on the safe side - the motor is an arse to remove alone, and why bother anyway, when the original fault may be a kink in the mechanism!

cheers

I have supplied Danielle with 2 used motors off the car I was breaking. She has contacted me since, and they are now working fine!
