Strong burning smell from engine, be aware - Page 4

Oh dear dear dear!

It looks like we have the same predicament.
Our XC90 T8 67 reg has developed same problem.
Recovered to the dealership last week where car spent 5 days and no fault found. Wife has just picked picked the car up and pulled up at work with the same strong burning smell.
It looks like we are in for long ride with Volvo!

Next time you get out after a decent run, wait for about 30 seconds then pop the hood and have a sniff and shine the light on your phone around to see if you can see smoke burning off.

So, the thing with oil and vapours leaking and burning off is the smoke has to come from somewhere...

Smoke comes from stuff burning off... that leaves residue. Over time it builds up and becomes impossible to not spot if someone is actually doing their job to find it and not fobbing you off.

If you see smoke, video it.

It's up to you whether you choose to have the car recovered via volvo assist so you are not driving something that nobody "cannot" say is not a fire risk or won't break down at a bad moment and to ensure you are placed in a courtesy car same day...

we had the stinking burning smell for quite some months prior to the "OMG is it actually on fire?" incident as the fault had clearly become severe that day

Awaiting written confirmation of exit without charges etc and requesting to get refunded deposit.

Lease co seemingly dragging their heels but our car is still in garage having more work done due to the vehicles "history"... that or they are worried there is a serious safety risk?! Who knows.
