Thanks to everyone for your replies. Alfa Vista that looks impressive. What colour and type of paint did you use? The million dollar question , Has it stayed on with the heat.

Thanks, Dave

Heats not much of a problem but it needs to be oil proof to stop staining. There are clear laquers to stop this.
For cadmium plating, the final finish will only be as good as the surface it goes on. Prep for chroming is just as unforgiving.

Hi Dave. I just used a zinc primer and a silver aerosol for wheels. I was very particular with preparation though. Good rubbing down with wet and dry paper between coats and made sure to de-oil the metal before the first coat, using spirits or similar. So far no problem with heat, but havent driven it much in the past few months as it has been off the road as I work on the interior. If there is though, its no big deal as its only paint and didnt cost much.
This was it before hand:

I also cleaned mine up with a rattle can. Used hammerite matt silver. For preperation I just sprayed degreeser on it, water blaster, then two coats of paint. That was about 2.5 years ago with daily driving and it still looks as good as the day I painted it.

Mine was in ok condition before I started though.

That looks good as well. Will make a decision when the engine comes back from the engine man, as to whether to paint or plate it. Its in good condition so could do either. Will try to find out how much its costs to have it zinc plated. Only problem can see with that if it comes back the wrong colour. Thanks again for your time Alf Ista and asneddon for taking the time to put your photos on.

Im away at the moment but when I get back I will look into getting a batch redone and how much it woulkd be. We need numbers for me to get this through otherwise they wont think the time will justify the cost. When I say numbers I woiuld expect a minimum number around 10.
The others issues are:
Any corrossion will be removed in the blasting/cleaning process however scars or rust pockets will show as you would expect. This doies show as light gloss and matt areas which to be honest is the typical CAD finish.
If we can get a spare rocker cover I will have one treated and post some pics for people to view and decide.
As Dai was the first to mention this perhaps he should have first dibs?

I was a little surprised, I have to say, that Brookhouse's nickel plated new one I was watching on ebay went for a little under £150 inc postage.

Is that around the recommended retail price?
