Heating woes. HELP NEEDED!!!
Hey guys
So my 2005 S60 2.0t is currently at 177,000 miles and the heating has given up. I’ve spent hours trawling through forums and stuff and I haven’t found a definitive answer what to do next so any help is greatly appreciated. Usually I can leave the climate control in auto and it heats and cools fine but now it’s just pumping cold air into the cabin. As you can imagine it makes driving the car in this recent cold snap a nightmare. If I turn the a/c off it gets a little warmer but it is lukewarm at best, but then the windows start steaming up as the system is no longer demisting the car. If I put on air recirculation it starts to get warm but that’s only because it’s recycling the heat in the cabin. I’ve changed my coolant twice and flushed it twice and this has only brought marginal gains. I’ve also had the climate control unit recalibrated with Vida and that hasn’t changed anything So here are the options as I see it: Either the heater blower has gone and I need to replace it. The concern with that is if it gone then why am I able to get some heat if I turn off the a/c Or either the heater matrix needs replacing. I replaced it three years ago but the guy I used put the wrong coolant in (he put red coolant when the car needs green anti corrosive stuff) so I think the contamination of different coolants has caused a blockage that isn’t being dislodged. I’m getting tired of buying more and more coolant and flush and also having a cold car and I want to sort this out once and for all so any help is very much appreciated! What should I do? |

Or one of the motors controlling the heat director flaps in the heater has failed.
If you read the dtc ‘s it may give a clue, and if you have access to Vida the live data can tell you what they are upto. The fan can easily be checked by turning it up, you can’t miss it if it’s running. It’s also worth getting a vacuum cleaner and sucking any dust from that little grill on the control oanel Last edited by reggit; Nov 20th, 2018 at 23:21. |

First check the ccm flaps are operating properly, as above. Turn each heat knob from max cold to max heat, you should hear the flaps inside the dash moving for 2-3 seconds.
If you suspect a gummed system from the wrong coolant mix, its not just the heater core that is gummed up. See inside the coolant tank how it looks. Use the Prestone Flush and Cleaner for several days with distilled water. Only mix coolant with distilled water.

Ok so I’ve checked and the flaps seem to work; when I switch from hot to cold I can hear them moving. I checked the fault codes and it said there was a fault with the CCM.
Ive got a new heater motor on the way so hopefully that should sort it!!! |
