Is it possible?
2004 XC70 D5 AWD.
Hello My awd is not working. i have tried on wet grass and only the front wheels work. When parked you can move the driveshaft with your hand...so all signs that is kaput My question is...Is it possible to take the transfer box and make it a FWD? I know its must be super difficult with lots of transformations....but it might be cheaper then repair the AWD Many Thanks |

This question arises frequently and the answer is always a yes.
I've never done it. |

At the moment it is FWD. Unless you want to reduce the weight then there is no reason to do anything?

Well is not just the weight the transmission are making some noise the driveshaft bearing ...you can also ear it.

I just realized you were referring to the "bevel gear" (transfer case).
When people do this they remove the rear driveshaft not the bevel gear. |

Yes...
I call it transfer box not transfer case. Yes the rear i just take the drive shafts to avoid bad bearings but the transfer case is the one i would like to remove even for better access to the back of the engine. |
