I sent mine to Shemtek - for the sake of sixty quid there was no way on earth I was going to attempt it at home.

Discretion is the better part of valour, as the saying goes.
My experience of doing electronics comes from minor repairs to sound equipment, so if it's an obvious broken wire or 'dry' joint I'm good but soon run out of the full technical ability. On the tech forums for Sound Engineers there's usually a thread or two about people bringing in kit that is in a sorry state and the story 'My brother tried to fix it for me ...'

Watching Bob DIY's YouTube video about these things put me firmly off; though yes, initially I was going to attempt it at home. Bloody glad I didn't as sourcing a newTraks module for a P1 R will set you 400 quid easy.

Hello there. New to the forum. Have any of you guys tried this on a newer car?
I've a 2008 v50. Anti skid warnings.

Is it worth a go with that or am I getting into dodgy territory?

Just got a quote of £250 from ecu-testing for it. I'd rather not pay that if I can sort it on the bench myself.

Thanks

I’m not sure about the newer cars, they may have different issues. I have managed to repair a few myself now, but it does involve a bit of patience. I have found that I need to look through a large magnifying glass while I re-solder the joints, as it’s not until you look through a glass that you See the borders you need to keep within. Also the post you mention says “just remove the lid”. This in itself can be a little tricky if you haven’t done it before, as it needs to be cut off with the help of a hacksaw. You can make a neat job if you know how to remove it but I am talking about the 850, v70/c70 models.

I had this on my 2007 S40 D5 a few weeks ago - 'Anti Skid Service Required'. It turned out to be the ABS pump itself in my case, nothing electronic. The fault logged related to the brake pressure sensor switch, but that text error is generic can mean a lot of things - you need to see the actual fault code to identify the issue

Hey Buddy,

Did Shemtek fix the fault? Did you have to post it to them? How long did they take? I’ve not heard of them before but I’m definitely not competent to fix it on my own! £60 is a bummer as my garage made me buy a new unit for £250
- with a lifetime warranty but it keeps freekin coming back with NFF! Not happy with my garage making that decision for me!
