Ammeter/oil pressure gauge 740turbodiesel
I have a 1990 turbodiesel estate. I also have a spare ammeter and oil pressure gauge from another volvo estate. Is it possible to fit them and will they operate correctly?

RE: Ammeter/oil pressure gauge 740turbodiesel
There should not be a problem for the oil pressure gauge. You should be able to tee it inwith the oil pressure switch for the warning lamp.
The Ammeter will be a very different kettle of fish as it needs to be fitted between the battery post and the battery cable terminal to give both charge and discharge readings. This involves some fairly heavy cable for the ammeter but you must leave the starter cable on the battery post otherwise you will burn out the Ammeter. To sum up, remove all cables from battery positive terminal except the starter cable. Connect two 100Amp cables to the ammeter terminals and connect one end to the battery positive terminal and the other to the rest of the cables that you removed (or seperated) from the battery terminal. You will obviously need to ensure that the cables are insulated where they pass through the bulkhead by a tight rubber grommet (there may be a spare pass through position on the large grommet already there). This will need to be gas-tight as well. All the best, Peter. |
