This is just a thought and I'm not familiar with 140's as I am Amazons, but if you have a generator instead of an alternotor AND it's the same system as an Amazon, then the voltage regulator is the same (with a few exceptions) as in a Beetle and is an an the shelf part for not a lot of money at GSF carparts and Euro Car Parts

Default Stabiliser

Exeter, you are getting confused between stabiliser and regulator. Regulator is for the dynamo output. The man wants a stabilser. It sits behind the speedo, converts 12 volt to 10 volt. The fuel gauge and the temp gauge are 10 volt, what a stupid system is that? When the stabiliser goes faulty, both gauges read low.

Tony, it's to prevent the gauges reading differently when you switch the lights, fan wipers etc. on. I must admit, however, that 120s seem to get by OK although their fuel gauges can be pretty random anyway!
