They should not fail at all though, surely a poor design. Good job these pipes are not used on power steering systems. (I know they have electric steering assist)

Heard the compressor for the first time today but only by sticking my head by the front wheel and starting the car from my phone. Surprisingly quiet and only ran for three or four seconds.

Only had one go in two years the latest more robust has been OK so far, I check it everynow and then, if you look in engine bay straight after opening car (i.e. "waking it up") its easy enough to hear the compressor running and see the pipe slowly expand as the pressure builds up, compressor then stops.
