Gents, you are stars - thanks for the prompt replies.
- Matt86 - the xx047 module was on ebay from a breakers in Leicester, so I'm not sure how he'd have got hold of it if it might be a US spec? I assume he was breaking a UK car, but I didn't check any vehicle details, I just looked for the part number. I assumed my local guys had given me the right part number..... D'oh! He's got the xx048 module on offer as well; I mailed him earlier this evening to see if he knows the difference, or if I should just order the xx048 part and return the xx047 one. His refund policy is 14 days, less postage, which isn't unreasonable, so I'm sure we can sort something out. Even if I buy both [and neither work] I get to have an adventure with dear old 'Ovlov', plus a couple of unusual coffee coasters, for a LOT less than my local guys want to charge me [in 3-4 weeks time] to 'fix' my car. - Gatos - Thanks for your input here, and your previous forum contributions which I have found really informative. Yes, I gathered from searching your previous posts that the module doesn't need 'programming'. Another reason I've pursued the self-help route, and now mis-trust my local indy 'specialist' for the 'advice' they're giving me. THAT, and the fact that they want to charge me in excess of 10x the secondhand part price, plus 4+ weeks lead time, and the 'not our fault, nuffink we can do about it guv' attitude that, left to them, my car is going to be off the road for 3+ weeks before I can get it re-MOT'd PLUS: silly-money fitting costs: I had the centre console off in less than 10 minutes tonight following Gatos' photos, and 6+ minutes of that was trying to be gentle with shift lever surround because I've got an auto and I didn't want to trash the plastic gear indicator plate, which I've never tried to remove before. I have no idea how the garage thought they had the 'wrong part' because, judging by all the crumbs etc I found under the centre console, they obviously had made absolutely no attempt to remove the console and actually LOOK at the d@nm thing! Crikey! With all these 'out-takes' I'm beginning to sound a bit like Skyship007! [Ha! Ha! - just a bit of fun - and FYI, I feed my 1.8 on German oil - F u c h s fully synth; Learned my oil lesson, during my 9 months interlude in 2007/8 of 12+ years of S/V40 ownership, with a 2.3 Saab 9-5...... I told you I've been a long-term-lurker.....] |

Dunno if it is good form to 'reply' to my own post or not, but I thought I'd just let folks know that my 30613047 module arrived this morning and it is clearly marked '1 airbag' whereas the xx048 module still in the car is equally clearly marked '2 airbag' - good guess, Gatos!
I ordered the xx048 module from the same guy on Ebay, and he's confirmed he's quite happy to refund me for the original one if I post it back to him. Hopefully, the right part will arrive on Monday, and I'll be able to check back in with some more good news. TTFN, Iain. |
