Just changed the serpentine belt with a genuine one (did the pulleys a couple of weeks ago but didn't have the belt). All the squeaks have gone!
Was amazed that just a non-genuine belt, that according to the paperwork I have was only a couple of years old, could cause so much noise, it looked to be wandering on the pulleys, where as the new one doesn't. |

Tried to clear tape marks off my wind mirror without success - bicarb, lemon juice, glass cleaner, engine cleaner, bug spray, white wine vinegar, WD40 - no success.
Going the shops to get some sticky stuff remover thing. Meanwhile, 2 blokes arrived to fit new windscreen which they did. Didn't reconnect the mirror, left black crap all over my windscreen and managed to break all of my newly fitted clips on the roof trim. Well done lads - they cost me £40. They said they are going to come out with clips and fit in the next couple of days...why not be more careful taking the trim off in the first place? Found a blown rear fog light bulb and hope that might be the reason for my warning triangle as still cannot figure out why the information thing doesn't work. So, buying some bulbs this afternoon. Cancelled my appointment at Volvo for Tuesday as £350 for a timing belt change, £150 for the water pump and they wanted an excessive amount for the diagnostic on everything else - the guy in Nottingham will sort it along with everything else. Hopefully soon. |

It is just possible that some numpty having damaged the threads MAY HAVE actually araldited or super-glued the drain plug in to stop it leaking. Go easy on the heat from the torch - the oil residue can be explosive if over-heated in the confined space of a sump - take the filler cap and the filter casing off before you heat it up to allow for the expansion and if possible have a dry powder extinguisher around if you can....WEAR GOGGLES/SAFETY specs

Not strictly Volvo, but today I got asked on official times for bodywork repairs:- how long is the official time for a door skin, a tailgate, etc. and that got me thinking, is there a formal list of times for various jobs? (If nothing else, to compare how out of form I am; can I still change a set of discs in <0.9 hour?)

The V70 alarm went off three times in 15 or so minutes having come back from the town...............hmmmm that's got to be the alarm battery problem m'thinks. About to pull the fuse and get to grips with it later.
Question - Where's my phone?? Better ring it to find out. Lock car door to ring from the home phone. Phone rings, car alarm goes off - so where's the mobile? Answer - between the side of the passenger seat and the handbrake cover.........where the vibrate setting sets off the alarm with amazing ease! Alarm problem solved job done.

Bit of diy in the morning. Up in the loft clamping up a few massive oak beams that had nasty cracks before they become worse. The house is over 400 years old and the beams are like iron, but they often get splits just because they so old and are so heavy. Morning diy because the temperature in the loft will go over 40 degrees by lunchtime.
This afternoon i am watching the f1 on the tv. Late on this afternoon by the pool with the misses. |

Yup, its full, of leaves and bits of detritis! The pool cleaner is full and so are the filters so that is todays job to clean everything! At least it is not as bad as the poor folks in Birmingham that are flooded out. Funny weather! Plus side - at least i dont need to clean the cars!
